In an industry where craft brewers are venturing to experiment with every possible ingredient into all styles of beer, Andina’s brewing team only need to make use of the very resources available to us both locally and abroad; one of the purest water sources in the world, the best hops and malt, and the uniqueness of the South American harvest.
Creating what is now the beer lineup for Andina Brewing Co. took a lot of very careful consideration. The founders, Andrés and Nicolas Amaya, have been developing their palate for years gradually transitioning from their mainstream favourites to drinking exclusively craft beer. After deciding which brews they personally really enjoyed and thought would do well for the company, they made me aware of certain styles that are currently being done very well in the American craft beer scene and seem to be getting overlooked here in Vancouver.
When the time to create Andina’s own brews arrived, they did not simply want to open and make beer that is very similar to what is being offered by our hard working neighbours, but rather create reinterpretations of these American craft beer styles and Andina’s own approach to new and exciting recipes. In an industry where craft brewers are venturing to experiment with every possible ingredient into all styles of beer, we only need to make use of the very resources available to us both locally and abroad; one of the purest water sources in the world, the best hops and malt, and the distinctiveness of the South American harvest.
Half of the joy of brewing for me is the challenge of creating something that is not just enjoyable and easy to drink, but also has a certain amount of uniqueness to it.
Now that I had a clear picture of what they were looking for, combined with my familiarity of the Vancouver craft beer scene and my years of experience brewing, I have created a beer lineup that pays homage to some beer that we really like, without being too similar and adding a bit of my own twist to it. Half of the joy of brewing for me is the challenge of creating something that is not just enjoyable and easy to drink, but also has a certain amount of uniqueness to it. If we all produced the same beer, the industry would not be nearly as much fun as it is. Our goal is to focus on quality, which includes not only outstanding recipes our customers will drink again and again, but also consistency, so that every beer we brew will meet our high standards. We are working hard to create recipes that respect the purity of the finest ingredients and allow them to shine through in our unique beer that you will enjoy at home or in our vibrant tasting lounge.
As far as our Latin American influences go, I would like to put to rest the thoughts that many people seem to have that we will be focusing on light lagers. This is not something that we have an interest in. Vancouver has a strong craft beer scene with a very discerning population and with a clear preference for flavour forward beer. The Andina beer lineup will introduce ingredients that reflect the rich and diverse South American heritage of its owners, including in one of our flagships. In fact, I have 7 different seasonals beer with South American ingredients already planned for our first year! To find out more about Andina Beer follow us on all of our social media platforms where we will be releasing our latest news and of course, come pay us a visit once we open our doors! We will be delighted to welcome you and say cheers Andina style ¡Salud!
